I hope that you enjoy looking around. You may shop for my pottery at Wicked Good Elderberry in Belgrade Lakes Village, Maine. You can also shop directly from me by shooting me an email. Cheers!
I'm Julie Oliver and I'm a potter from Maine. I was a public school teacher for over a decade, working with gifted kids in grades K-8. When my program was affected by COVID, I decided it was time to turn my passion for pottery into my day gig. My helpers are two fiery golden retrievers, one dry grey cat and my husband, Dave, who giggles when I have clay on my face.
My husband and I have finally moved into our dream retirement home... a renovated antique cape in beautiful Belgrade, Maine! Sitting in a copse of pine trees on our quiet dirt road, my new studio is still a work in progress, but it's got heat, power, and windows and will get me through the Maine winter! 2024 will bring plumbing and a touch of backwoods flair! I am grateful.
My pots are hand thrown on a potter's wheel, one piece at a time. They are dried, then bisque fired in the kiln, hand glazed with multiple layers and fired a second time to a heat just under 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. I craft in small batches and each piece is utterly unique. I work primarily in stoneware and am passionate about functional ware. I love the idea of my pieces joining you at morning coffee or for evening drinks.
